Italy miss First World Cup in 60 years.

Idehendaniel.blogspot.com        Four-time world champions Italy will not be at the   2018 FIFA World Cup  in Russia following their 0-0 home draw against Sweden in the second leg of their European play-off qualifier on Monday. The draw means Sweden go through 1-0 on aggregate after winning the first-leg by the same scoreline. This is the first time since the 1958 edition held in Sweden that Italy have failed to qualify for the FIFA World Cup. For Sweden, they will be making a return to the World Cup after missing out in the 2010 and 2014 editions in South Africa and Brazil respectively. Also, this will be Sweden’s 12th appearance at the World Cup since making their debut at the second edition held in 1934 in Italy. The final play-off game will see Republic of Ireland host Denmark on Tuesday. In the first leg played on Saturday, Ireland forced Denmark to a 0-0 draw.

U.S. Resolute To Fight HIV/AIDS In Nigeria.

Idehendaniel.blogspot.com The U. S. Ambassador to Nigeria, Stuart Symington, said on Monday that his country would remain committed to the fight against HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis in Nigeria. Mr Stuart made this known at the opening ceremony of a two-day Nigeria HIV/AIDS Intervention symposium held in Abuja. The symposium with the theme “Partnering for sustainable HIV Epidemic Control in Nigeria” was organised by Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) under the auspices of the U.S. Embassy. He said that HIV/AIDS had remained a burning issue that gives cause for concern, therefore the need for commitment to ensure that people affected get cured. “We have to address the issue to ensure people can be healthy and strong medically so that they can contribute their share to the cause of healthcare delivery. “If the people of Nigeria must succeed and if they must contribute to the fight against HIV/AIDS, they need to hold all of us accountable. “We as a people...

A new  report on Monday from the International Union for Conservation of Nature  (IUCN) reveals that the number of natural world heritage sites being damaged and at risk from global warming has almost doubled to 62 in the past three years. Those at high risk include iconic places from the Galapagos Islands to the central Amazon and less well known but equally vibrant and unique sites such as the karst caves of Hungary and Slovakia and the  monarch butterfly reserves  in Mexico. Coral reefs are particularly badly affected by rising ocean temperatures, from the Seychelles to Belize, where the northern hemisphere’s biggest reef is situated. Bill Gates invest $50 million inorder to fight Alzheimer's.

Billionaire Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates is to invest $50 million in the Dementia Discovery Fund, a venture capital fund that brings together industry and government to seek treatments for the brain-wasting disease. The investment – a personal one and not part of Gates’ philanthropic Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation – will be followed by another $50 million in start-up ventures working in Alzheimer’s research, Gates said. With rapidly rising numbers of people suffering from Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, the disease is taking a growing emotional and financial toll as people live longer, Gates told Reuters in an interview. “It’s a huge problem, a growing problem, and the scale of the tragedy – even for the people who stay alive – is very high,” he said. Emirates airline buys 40 Boeing Dreamliners for $15 billion as Dubai Air Show opens.

  The biennial Dubai Air Show opened Sunday with hometown long-haul carrier Emirates making a $15.1-billion buy of American-made  Boeing  787-10 Dreamliners, as the world's biggest defense companies promoted their weapons amid heightened tensions between Saudi Arabia and Iran. Other airlines also are taking part, but missing from the trade show this year is one of the region's largest long-haul carriers, Qatar Airways, amid diplomatic fallout between Qatar and four Arab nations. The Boeing announcement came after over an hour and a half of delays by Emirates amid rumors of a possible Airbus sale involving its A380 aircraft, a major workhorse for the airline. Ford, Chinese firm to invest $756m on electric cars.

US auto stalwart Ford announced on Wednesday a $756 million investment with its Chinese joint venture to produce electric cars, just as US President Donald Trump arrived in Beijing for thorny trade talks. Ford’s investment with Zotye comes as China has signalled it plans to force gas-guzzling vehicles off the road, though the country has yet to lay out a formal timeline for the new regulations. China will also impose in 2019 a quota requiring automakers to produce a minimum number of new-energy vehicles. The two firms confirmed the establishment of the Zotye Ford Automobile Company joint venture, which will will design, build and distribute all-electric passenger vehicles for China, Ford said in a statement. Ford said Zotye is the market leader in China’s all-electric small vehicle segment, noting that the company has sold 22,500 electric vehicles so far this year.
